Final days in Hungary

Posted 14 April 2008 - Székesfehérvár (HU);

Hello from Hungary again. I`m in the city of Székesfehérvár, which is quite hard to pronounce but otherwise a nice place. I will move on to Budapest tonight to meet up with a fellow Dutch guy who has participated in a project somewhat similar to mine a few years ago. He now edits a pan-European magazine and we agreed to meet in Budapest to share some experiences. That should be a nice end to my Hungary adventure. On Wednesday, I will leave for Slovenia, a country which I have only briefly visited at an earlier occasion. That tasted like more, so I`m quite eager to go there again!

The Netherlands is clearly not the only country that has tulips in spring!

Hungarian food

Posted 9 April 2008 - Szeged (HU):

Meal shared with Hungarian, Italian and Spanish people in a restaurant that looks like times have stood still for the last 20 years. Very tasty food though!

Discovering Budapest

Posted 6 Apr 2008 - Budapest (HU):

Sorry for being slow and once again lagging behind with postings, skipping one every now and then.. I`m only human..

Today was my first entire day in Budapest and I explored the city with my Hungarian host and an Albanian exchange student. We went cycling in the city, but somehow the bikes are missing in the photo. Shit happens, fortunately they did not disappear in real life.

Imported trams

Posted 5 April 2008 - Miskolc (HU):

Trams in Hungary are nice, especially when they are not Hungarian :) This one was imported straight from Vienna!

Quiet Hungary

Posted 4 April 2008 - Debrecen (HU):

Away from Romania, I am now in Hungary which is a lot quieter than Romania. This is the main street of Debrecen, Hungary`s second biggest city and main university town after Budapest.

From Russia with Love

Posted 26 February 2007 - Moscow (RU):

I don't think I mentioned earlier that we have been able to get our visas for Russia ready in time. We left from Schiphol earlier today. I surprisingly enough enjoyed the flight - something I haven't done since early December 2004. The weather was good, the flight smooth and I had some reading material with me. The first glance of Russia from >30,000 feet altitude was like a black and white photograph: white for snow and grey or black for about everything else. We landed on runway 25R of Sherementjevo Airport and went through an elaborate customs procedure. We took a taxi to the hotel and I tried to make some conversation with the taxi driver. The small Russian phrasebook was sufficient for a good laugh but we didn't really get any substantial discussion out of the whole thing. I tried to read the Cyrillic signs along the road and managed quite alright - with some. I decided that before the end of the week, I should at least be able to read words and pronounce them. Hopefully learn some interesting words, but at least recognise and pronounce the characters.

We got kicked out at the wrong hotel so had to take another taxi to end up at the right place. Although it was very cold, we didn't really notice how cold. It's not the kind of wet type of cold we have in Holland (or used to have....). It's a dry and persistant cold. It only freezes you slowly so to say. I took precautions so should be alright, except for one missing glove...

Kind regards..

Hungary missing out

Posted 12 January 2007 - The Hague (NL):

An attentive colleague pointed out that I had forgotten to include photos from Hungary. Well here they are.. I haven't visited Hungary in any other way than by transit to another country. In about the same way Dutch people cross Belgium on the way to their holiday destination. At least, until 2008.

Other info of the day: I got some basic introduction in CSS style sheets, PHP and cross-criterial database searches which will help me optimise the structure behind PhotoLogiX even further. In the meantime, could anybody nominate me for the Dutch Bloggies? Category = photo blogs, please use a link to http://www.dailyphoto.nl rather than photologix for this purpose :)
